All that starts well ends well, would be what the India cricket lovers be hoping as India’s first World Cup match, against South Africa, kicked off in Southampton on Wednesday. India put the brakes on the Proteas’ flow of runs as they could manage only 42 runs in the first 12 overs. One of the highlights of the first few overs, was Jasprit Bumrah dismissing Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock in his first three overs. Cricket legend Virender Sehwag, much like his flamboyant style of batting, described the wickets in his typical style.
The former Indian batsman praised Bumrah and termed him as ‘Boom Boom Bumrah!’, while terming his line and length for the first wicket as ‘Impeccable’ while congratulating him.
Sehwag tweeted, “11/1 . Congratulations Boom Boom Bumrah ! Impeccable line and length and the first wicket for India in the World Cup #INDvSA.”
Later, Bumrah even dismissed Quinton De Kock in his third over. For the second wicket, Sehwag shared a snap of Bumrah with de Kock, but from the IPL where they play for the Mumbai Indians.
Referring to a moment when de Kock made a mistake behind the stumps and the fast bowler backed him, Sehwag wrote, “ 23 days ago some mercy and amazing gesture for DeKock, but today no mercy . Jasprit Bumrah, what a spell #INDvSA.”
Bumrah surely deserves the credit as coming into the World Cup as the most dependable speedster, the bowler has justified the massive expectations on him early on,
Bhuvneshwar Kumar complemented Bumar as he too gave away just 20 runs in his 4 overs.
While all-rounder Hardik Pandya will also handle the seaming responsibilities, India has gone with two spinners, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal for the match.
As far as the batting is concerned, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, the openers, captain Virat Kohli and KL Rahul make up the top order, and wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav form the middle order, with runs expected from Pandya and Bhuvneshwar.
