The Indian batsmen continued from where they had left against the defending World Champions Australia as they put up an outstanding performance with the bat against arch-rivals Pakistan during their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 clash at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday.

After being asked to bat first by Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed, Rohit and KL Rahul laid a solid platform for India with a 136-run opening stand. After Rahul was dismissed for a well-made 57, the Indian vice-captain then added 98 runs for the second-wicket stand with Virat Kohli. The Hitman scored a splendid 113-ball 140 at a strike rate of 123.89 which included 14 boundaries and three maximums.

After Sharma was dismissed, Kohli anchored the Indian innings. He scored a splendid half-century and also became the fastest batsman to score 11,000 runs. He was dismissed for a 65-ball 77. However, his dismissal was a bit bizarre.

Amir had bowled a short one which came in quickly as Kohli looked to hook the ball. But, he ended up getting a 'top edge' and Sarfaraz Ahmed made no mistake behind the stumps. Nonetheless, the replays suggested something else. Nonetheless, he walked back as he thought that there was an edge. It showed that the Indian skipper's bat had not made any contact with the ball. Meanwhile, Kohli also appeared to give a stunning look inside the dressing room while MS Dhoni was seen checking his bat.
