The first semi-final between India and New Zealand was interrupted due to persistent rain at Old Trafford in Manchester on Tuesday. When all seemed well and while the fans were enjoying the contest, their happiness had water poured on it at the backend of the first innings as the weather gods intervened. As the players left the field, the 2015 World Cup finalists were 211/5 after the end of 46.1 overs.
All possible efforts were taken for the match to be played and for an ideal result, but it was not to be as the weather gods had other ideas. Luckily, there is a reserve day scheduled for the knockout games. So, both India and New Zealand took to the field on Wednesday at 10:30 AM local time and 3 PM IST. The Kiwis resumed their innings from 46.1 overs and they will be batting their remaining 3.5 overs.
With the match resuming on the reserve day, here's what the fans had to say in social media.
Meanwhile, New Zealand finished their innings at 239/8. Ross Taylor top-scored for the Kiwis with a 90-ball 74 while skipper Kane Williamson had scored a 95-ball 67. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja had effected a brilliant run out and a well-judged catch off Taylor and Tom Latham off consecutive deliveries.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of the Indian bowlers with figures of 3/43 in his 10 overs at an economy rate of 4.30.
