World Cup over, BCCI invites applications for Team India Head Coach and other support staff, Ravi Shastri and co get automatic entry

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited applications for various support staff positions including Head Coach, Batting coach, Bowling coach and Fielding coach for senior India Men's team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would like to call upon interested candidates to apply for the following positions for the senior India Men’s team.

•  Head Coach
•  Batting Coach
•  Bowling Coach
•  Fielding Coach
•  Physiotherapist
•  Strength and Conditioning Coach
•  Administrative Manager
• Interested candidates should send their application(s) on or before July 30, 2019, by 5 pm at recruitment@bcci.tv
• The current coaching staff of Team India (Senior Men) will get an automatic entry in the recruitment process.
• Pertinent to note, that the decision of the BCCI for the said position, will remain final and binding.

45-day extension for Shastri and co:

The coaching staff comprising Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun, batting coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach R Sridhar were given a 45-day extension following the World Cup, covering the West Indies tour from August 3 to September 3. After the West Indies tour, India's home season kicks off with the series against South Africa beginning September 15.

World Cup exit cut short Shastri and co's Extension:

A BCCI official told Republic TV that if India had won the World Cup, the scenario might have been different, indicating that Ravi Shastri was all set to get an out-of-turn 2-year-extension as the chief coach if the Men In Blue returned home victorious from the World Cup.

Shastri was appointed India chief coach in 2017 after Anil Kumble's tenure ended prematurely in controversial circumstances. The 57-year-old was also India's director of cricket from August 2014 to June 2016. However, India has not won a major ICC event under his guidance although the team did make history by winning a maiden Test series in Australia earlier this year.

Former Tamil Nadu captain Sunil Subramanian was appointed team manager in 2017 on a year-contract but he got an extension. It was the first time that the BCCI had followed a transparent procedure for hiring the team manager, in accordance with the Lodha committee recommendations.

What is the recruitment process?

For all positions, the BCCI has done away with a direct appointment and follows a proper recruitment process. The BCCI's CoA (Committee of Administrators) is scheduled to hold a meeting with coach Ravi Shastri and skipper Virat Kohli to discuss the Team India's performance and the team combination, keeping in mind that the preparations and grooming of players for the 2023 World Cup needs to begin at the earliest, as per sources.
