Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who played a crucial knock but in vain during the semi-final clash against New Zealand on July 9, was inconsolable after India was knocked out of the ongoing World Cup, revealed his wife Rivaba Jadeja.

The left-handed all-rounder played a valiant knock of 77, reviving the Indian innings after an early collapse of the top-order. The Chennai Super Kings duo Jadeja and Dhoni put up a 116-run partnership that almost saw India over the line before both the players lost their wickets at a crucial juncture of the match, allowing New Zealand to snatch away the victory from the Men in Blue.

As per reports, Rivaba Jadeja revealed that Jadeja was devastated after India's loss to the Kiwis as he believed that he had the ability to get the team over the line. She said that it would take some time for the cricketer to come in terms with the defeat especially after he had almost secured a win for India.

The all-rounder was subjected to a lot of criticism especially from former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar, who called Jadeja a 'bits-and-pieces' cricketer. After playing just two matches for India in the World Cup, Jadeja silenced his critics with a spectacular performance with both the ball and the bat, which also lead to speculations of why he was not included in the playing eleven earlier.

The important half-century from Jadeja made him the proud record holder of the first 50+ score by a number eight batsman in a World Cup knockout match. In addition to this, Jadeja topped the list of most runs saved on the field by a player after completing just two games and saving 41 runs.

Stressing on the significance of Jadeja performing at the big stages, Rivaba said that Jadeja had always performed in crunch situations and has taken vital wickets in addition to scoring runs with the bat. She also recollected that Jadeja was awarded the Man of the Match award for his all-round performance in the finals of the Champions Trophy in 2013.

Ravindra Jadeja scored 77 runs with four boundaries and four sixes to his name in the semi-finals against New Zealand at Old Trafford in Manchester.
