After securing the Cricket World Cup victory for England in 2019, all rounder Ben Stokes is likely to receive knighthood. Stokes played an unbeaten 84 runs, following which Prime Minister candidates Jeremy Hunt and Boris Johnson said that they will do maximum to give Stokes 'knighthood' as reported by cricket.com.au. Till now eleven Englishmen have been knighted for services to cricket, the most recent of which was former Test and ODI skipper, Sir Alastair Cook.
Johnson, the frontrunner for the role, replied: "I will give dukedoms, whatever - I will go to the maximum, to, what, the Garter King of Arms. Yes is the answer, absolutely". When the question was put to Hunt, he replied succinctly: "Of course". Their answers came during a series of rapid-fire series of 'yes or no' questions at the end of the leadership debate, hosted by The Sun and talkRADIO.
Taking to Twiiter both the frontrunner also congratulated the England Cricket Team. England cliched their first ever World Cup on July 15 2019 in a nail-biting match against Black Caps. As Martin Guptill and James Neesham did their best to level the score for a tie in the super over, England managed to secure their victory due to ICC rules that according to which Team with maximum boundaries wins the match after Super Over.
Hunt or Boris will replace Theresa May as PM of UK. May resigned from the post of the Prime Minister after her Brexit deal was repeatedly thrown out of by the House of Commons, most humiliating being the January 15 2019 vote margin of 432 Nos versus 202 Yes'. On May 24, May resigned fighting back her tears and declaring that she had done 'everything' to honour people's verdict of the 2016 EU referendum. The Conservative party will choose its PM. On 6 July, voting opened up to the Conservative Party's 160,000 members, to choose their Leader of the Party. The final deadline for party members to vote falls the week ending Sunday 21 July. The candidate achieving more than 50 per cent of the vote among Party members will be declared the winner, and new Prime Minister. The result is expected to be announced on July 23.
