India's 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh has called a media interaction at a plush South Mumbai hotel Monday, triggering speculations that he may announce his retirement.

One of India's greatest limited overs cricketers, Yuvraj has been seriously contemplating retirement from international cricket and pursue a freelance career in ICC approved foreign Twenty20 leagues.

A senior BCCI official had recently told PTI that Yuvraj is thinking of calling it quits from international and first-class cricket.

"He would like to speak to the BCCI and get more clarity on plying his trade in tournaments like GT20 (Canada), Euro T20 Slam in Ireland and Holland as he has offers," a BCCI source privy to the development had said.

While it is not officially confirmed yet whether Yuvraj will announce his retirement or not, but if he calls it quit, it should not surprise anybody.

Yuvraj last played a Test in 2012 and ODI and T20 in 2017.

In his almost two-decade career, Yuvraj has been one of the biggest stalwarts in Indian cricket. He was a force to reckon with in the last decade when he was in his prime.  After all, who can forget those six sixes off Stuart Broad's over during the inaugural edition of the ICC World T20 in 2007 where he had played a significant role in India's famous triumph.

Yuvi's stellar all-round performances helped India win the World Cup after a long wait of 28 years. He finished as the 'Player of the Tournament' with 362 runs and 15 scalps in that showpiece event. The veteran all-rounder had stitched a match-winning 74-run stand with Suresh Raina against the mighty Australians in the quarterfinal after India had suffered a top-order collapse. His unbeaten 57 not only helped India reach the semis but also ended Australia's 12-year reign as the World Champions.

Before the bigger achievements, the southpaw had also made a massive impact when he has started his cricketing career in 2000. On his debut match, he had scored a match-winning 84 against Steve Waugh's Australia in the quarterfinals of the ICC Knockout Trophy.

Yuvraj then played arguably the best innings of his life against England in the 2002 Natwest Tri-Series final at Lord's. He had scored 69 and added 121 runs with Mohammad Kaif (87*) for the sixth wicket after India looked down and out at 146/5 during their run chase of 326.

This partnership proved to be the turning point of the match as India went on to register a famous win.
