The Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions, on Tuesday, for the 2019 season was a breathtaking affair with all the eight teams splashing the cash and fighting it out amongst them to bring the best players to their franchise.
While the big buys were youngsters Varun Chakravarthy and Jaydek Unadkat, both fetching Rs 8.4 crore, as well as England's rising sensation Sam Curran, who was brought for Rs 7.2 crore, the one player who hogged a lot of limelight was Yuvraj Singh.
One of the earliest stars of T20 cricket, Yuvraj had struggled to light the tournament on fire in the recent few seasons. His mediocre form saw him being released by Kings XI Punjab after last season, and after the round of auctions, it seemed he will be remained unsold.
But when the names of some players were brought back to the table at the request of franchise, Mumbai Indians swooped in for the 2007 World T20 winner, grabbing him at his base price of Rs 1 crore.
MI will be the fifth team Yuvraj will play for in the IPL history. And the player could not hide his excitement of joining the 'Mumbai Paltan'. Soon after it was confirmed that he will don the blue jersey, Yuvraj took to Twitter and wrote a message for his new club as well as team's skipper Rohit Sharma. "I am glad to be part of the @mipaltan family, looking forward for the season to begin. See u soon @ImRo45," his post read.
Rohit responded in kind to Yuvraj's message, welcoming him to the 'city of heroics'.
Sachin Tendulkar, the former player and skipper of MI, expressed his content with the auction activity of the franchise, praising their decision to bring in experienced players like Lasith Malinga and Yuvraj.
