Man United fan allegedly racially abused Liverpool's Alexander-Arnold

Man United played hosts to Liverpool on October 20. During the first half, a Man United supporter is said to have racially abused Liverpool's right-back.

There's a dark cloud that has been hanging over world football in recent times. Multiple players of a number of ethnicities have faced the issue of racism in recent years. The most recent case of racism was during England's visit to Bulgaria in the Euro Qualifier at Sophia. However, racism has once again reared its ugly head. This time, in the Premier League.

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold the victim

Manchester United played hosts to Liverpool on October 20. As Marcus Rashford put the hosts ahead in the first half, something ugly was brewing close to the players' executive boxes in the Stretford End. A Manchester United fan is alleged to have hurled racist abuse at Liverpool's right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold. The 21-year England international was said to have been the victim of racist abuse from a fan during the first half of the game.

The abuser in question was promptly ejected by the authorities after some fans who were disgusted by the vile abuse directed at the Liverpool player brought the issue to the attention of the stewards. A Manchester United spokesperson said that the issue was being investigated as a priority. If found guilty, the person in question will be banned for life from Old Trafford.

A club statement from Manchester United said that racism and all similar forms of discrimination would not be tolerated by the club, and such issues do not reflect the values of the club. The Greater Manchester Police were also made aware of the situation. United's swift action was welcomed by Liverpool. Liverpool further went on to say that they support the strongest possible action that is bound to be taken against anyone found to be responsible for the incident.

Marcus Rashford himself was the subject of racial abuse back in August, along with his teammate Paul Pogba. The two were the victim of racist abuse on social media, after missing their penalties in Manchester United's August fixtures. The swift action taken by the Red Devils, however, will be welcomed across the board, as world football struggles to eradicate the issue of racism from the sport.
