Augsburg is signing three experienced players on free transfers from Bundesliga rivals to strengthen its squad for next season.

The Bavarian club said on Monday that midfielders Tobias Strobl and Daniel Caligiuri were joining from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Schalke, respectively, while goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz is switching from Union Berlin. All the players are over 30 years old.

The midfielders agreed on three-year deals, while the 32-year-old Gikiewicz was getting a contract through June 2022. Gikiewicz helped Union earn its first ever promotion last year and survival in the top flight this season.

“They are all strong characters, who were leaders at their clubs. We are certain that they will help us both on and off the pitch with their mentalities,” Augsburg general manager Stefan Reuter said.

Augsburg also announced that 22-year-old defender Felix Uduokhai will stay at the club after it decided to take the option to buy the player from Wolfsburg after his loan move this season.
