Bayern Munich vs Olympiacos (Youth League): Attack by Ultras
Four fans were injured as the game was halted in the 84th minute when around 50 masked Olympiacos ultras launched flares and sticks from the stands onto the pitch. In horrifying scenes, the hooded intruders stormed the pitch and attacked defenceless opposition supporters in a brutal bid to get the game called off. Olympiacos were trailing 4-0 when the violence erupted, just hours before the UEFA Champions League game between the two teams at the Karaiskaki Stadium in Piraeus. Pictures on social media showed the German supporters soaked in blood, ahead of the clubs’ first teams facing each other in the Champions League.
No arrests were reported, and the extent of the four Bayern fans` injuries was not immediately known. According to Greek media, about 1,600 German fans had travelled to Greece for the Group B match. Olympiacos were quick to deny any link with the intruders and condemned the violence against Bavarian fans. According to reports, Olympiacos coach Dimitris Mavrogenidis, 42, was left angered by the clashes, with the former Greece international right-back apologising for the same.
