Benfica returned to the top of the Primera Liga standings on Thursday, despite being held to a goalless draw at home by lowly Tondela.
Bruno Lage's men dominated from the start, but a mixture of rusty finishing in front of goal and some dogged defending from the visitors kept the scoreline blank.
Jardel, Pizzi and Gabriel all went close and Ruben Dias hit a post late on, but Benfica could not find the net.
Still, they now have 60 points from 25 games, ahead of Porto on goal difference.
Porto suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat at Famalicao on Wednesday.
Benfica's first game since the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, was played in an empty Stadium of Light, but 'As Aguias' (The Eagles) tried their best to recreate an atmosphere by playing crowd noise through the ground's many speakers - it didn't seem to help.
