Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has warned that his side must improve their form away from Anfield in the UEFA Champions League as there will be no repeat of last season’s lucky qualification for the knockout stage. For a team which has reached successive finals, Liverpool’s record on the road in the group stage is terrible.

Liverpool's bad away performances
Liverpool have lost their last four away games, scoring only once, and have not won any of the previous five with the last victory on the road being at Maribor two years ago. That success in Slovenia remains their only victory in their last 10 away group matches. The Reds lost all three away group stage matches on their way to winning the competition last season and were beaten by Napoli in their first match this season.

The defending European champions visit Belgian champions Genk on Wednesday evening (Thursday 12.30 AM IST) seeking their first away win in the group stage of the competition for over two years. Liverpool’s last group away win was a 7-0 result in Maribor in October 2017, while their last four trips at this stage have all ended in defeat, including last month’s Group E opener. Their away form is something of a mystery for a side which has reached back-to-back Champions League finals and winning their sixth European Cup against Tottenham in Madrid in June. Klopp himself is at a loss of words to explain this.
