The 'eternal derby' also known as the 'intercontinental derby,' is a rivalry between two of the most successful Turkish teams and interestingly both belong to the region of Istanbul. A rivalry which dates backs centuries and what is considered of the most fierce ones in the history of football, saw the two teams Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray renew ties once again on Friday night.

The matches between these two sides are famously heated, be it with the physical and verbal exchanges on the football field or the banter between the fans, and this time was certainly not going to be any different.

Though, for the first time, the game was looking to go all way without any major interruption, and then, the inevitable happened. After the full time which saw the game end 2-2, the players went to shake each others hands and suddenly out of the blue, a mass brawl erupted.

Jailson Siqueira, the Brazilian midfielder, who scored Fenerbahçe's equaliser, appeared to have sparked the brawl, with many Galatasaray players chasing after him. Looking at an army of Galatasaray players chasing him, Jailson Siqueira sprinted down the tunnel not confident in his ability to take them all down on his own.

Following the chaos the ensued after the match, Galatasaray's Badou Ndiaye and Fenerbahçe Roberto Saldado and Jailson being red-carded for their reactions. This means the cautioned players are set to miss the next match, with the Turkish FA set to look into the matter to decide if a further ban is necessary.

However, the match itself was not short of action as Fenerbahce came back from two goals down to hold Galatasaray to a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Istanbul derby. Ryan Donk had given the hosts the lead, which was followed by Martin Linnes who doubled the lead with a stunning free-kick.

Fenerbahçe got back into the game thanks to the VAR assistance which saw Mathieu Valbuena convert from the spot-kick after being awarded a penalty. Valbuena played a crucial role in equalizer by setting up Jailson Siqueira, who fired the ball into the top corner to set up an enthralling finale.

Both teams had late chances, but failed to make the most of it as both teams had to share the spoils in a spectacular contest which was blighted by the post-match melee. The result saw Galatasaray go back on top of the league, while Fenerbahçe remain in the bottom half
