Barcelona’s former presidential candidate Toni Freixa has expressed his thoughts about a surprise move by the Camp Nou side to rope legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo into their team. As Xavi Hernandez takes over the team as the head coach after Ronald Koeman’s exit after a disastrous start to the season, the former presidential runner Freixa believes looking at the current state of the club, Ronaldo might be a slight possibility for the club. Barcelona sits ninth in the La Liga 2021-22 points table with only four wins in 12 matches so far and looks to turn things turned for them after the mid-season sacking of Koeman.

Freixa was questioned about the United player Ronaldo during his appearance on Betever’s ‘La Porteria’. As reported by Marca, speaking about the potential transfer, Freixa said, “If there's a time for such madness then it's now.” Ronaldo has scored a total of nine goals for the United in 13 matches since returning to Manchester United in 2021. Out of his nine, he has scored five goals in the four UEFA Champions League matches the team has played. United currently sits on the top of Group F of the tournament, with two wins, a loss, and a draw so far, whereas, Barcelona finds itself at the second position in Group E with two wins and two losses.

Barcelona's new era under Xavi Hernandez

After the exit of Lionel Messi in 2021, Barcelona has found it difficult to be afloat with other teams. However, with the appointment of former player Xavi as their head coach, the club goes into a new era. As per Marca, speaking on the appointment of Xavi, former presidential candidate Toni Freixa said, “He has come with this plan of fining players. I think he is trying to convince them of his plan and of his way of playing. I think he wants them to enjoy their football." Meanwhile, the possibility of Ronaldo considering a move to Barcelona seems far-fetched as he has already expressed his happiness on joining back United. However, if United continues with their uncertain form in the current season, it is possible for Ronaldo to change his decision and seek a new team.
