There was an air of excitement amongst Juventus fans when they got to know that the club had signed five-time Ballon d'Or Crisitiano Ronaldo. The Portugese decided to join the Italian giants after ending his nine-year long association with Real Madrid. Upon his arrival, Ronaldo made all the right statements, terming the move as 'special', and praising the Juventus fans.

But the club supporters faced disappointment when it was announced that the Portugese would miss the pre-season tour with his new club. But now, they know the exact date of his debut.

The Seria A fixture lists have been announced, and the reigning champions would play their first match against Chievo Verona on August 18. Ronaldo is expected to start, or at least be on the bench for the opener, given he announced upon his arrival that he would aim to be fit for the first match.

Ronaldo signed with Juventus from Real Madrid for a reported fee of 100 million euros. The Portugese skipper spent nine years at the Spanish capital, but decided to end his association with them after leading the club to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles. 

Earlier on Friday, he was given a a two-year jail term by the Spanish authorities in the tax fraud charge. Though, he will not be serving any time in jail and will have to pay a hefty fine of 19 million euros. The 33-year-old was accused and found guilty of tax evasion worth 14.7 million euros between 2011 and 2014.

Given it was his first offense, there would be no jail time for the 33-year-old. As per the Spanish laws, and individual would be open to custodial sentence should he commit a similar offense during this period.

His incident is similar to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi. The Argentine, and his father were given 21 and 15 months jail-term for tax fraud worth 4.1 million euros. Though, neither of them served time in prison as they paid the amount with additional fine.

The duo were two of the 10 players shortlisted for the Men's Best Player Award of 2018. Ronaldo is in contention to win for a third consecutive year after helping Real Madrid to their third consecutive UEFA Champions League.
