Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from Real Madrid was imminent soon after the Spanish club's success in the final of the UEFA Champions League 2017/18. The Portuguese had hinted that his nine-year long association at the club would come to an end.
More than a month after reports emerged of his exit, the five-time Ballon D'or superstar decided to join Italian giants Juventus, the club whose fans applauded Ronaldo for his amazing bicycle kick when he played for Real against them in the Champions League. Upon his arrival at Turin, Ronaldo stated that 'it was an easy decision', claiming the love and respect afforded by Juventus fans to him was the major reason behind his move.
Prior to that, reports had suggested that he may well rejoin Manchester United, the club he left in 2009 for Real. Ronaldo had spent six successful years with the Red Devils, winning team as well as personal accolades. His excellent relationship with the English club meant many predicted him to return to Premier League.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho faced many questions regarding his transfer dealings throughout the summer transfer window. He was quizzed numerous times regarding why Ronaldo wasn't signed, with many throwing criticism at him.
But following his side's 2-0 win over Burnley, the former Real Madrid boss cleared air regarding the whole saga. In his post-match press conference, he said, "Cristiano was never on my table to say yes or no. Cristiano to come to us, it was never on my table."
The two-time UEFA Champions League winning boss was pleased with his side's performance in their win at Turf Moor. Under pressure to perform having suffered embarrassing loss in their previous two matches, Manchester United cruised to a 2-0 win against Burnley in a game filled with drama and controversy.
Jose Mourinho's men came into this fixture having lost 3-2 to Brighton and Hove Albion on match week 2, which was followed by a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. The setbacks meant United made their worst start to a Premier League season in 26 years. But the Red Devils bounced back strongly against a Burnley side lacking confidence.
