  • Cristiano Ronaldo won a total of 24 per cent votes in the best player category, with Ryan Giggs getting 21 per cent and Paul Scholes receiving 17 per cent.
  • The award for the best goal category though, was won by Wayne Rooney for his unbelievable overhead kick against Manchester City in 2011

Portugese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted by the Manchester United fans as their best player in the Premier League era. Ronaldo, who spent six seasons with United, beat club legends Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes to the award.

The poll was conducted in order to celebrate 'Red Devils' completing 1000 manages in the Premier League. Ronaldo won a total of 24 per cent votes in the best player category, with Giggs getting 21 per cent and Scholes receiving 17 per cent.

The award for the best goal category though, was won by Wayne Rooney for his unbelievable overhead kick against 'noisy neighbors' Manchester City in 2011. That strike won an astonishing 53 per cent. It was followed by Ronaldo's free-kick against Portsmouth, which got nine per cent votes and Robin Van Persie's first-time volley against Aston Villa, which garnered eight per cent votes.

As for the 'best match' award, it went to Manchester United's thrilling 4-3 win over City in 2010, where Michael Owen scored a 97th minute winner. Only 87 votes separated this match and United's 8-2 thrashing of Arsenal in 2012, which finished second.

The final award was for the 'best save', which went to David de Gea for his incredible save of then Chelsea player Juan Mata's free-kick in the 2011/12 season. He garnered 28 per cent votes for this save, 10 per cent more than his own one-handed save of Brian Oviedo in 2014/15, which finished second.

Manchester United are the most successful team in the Premier League era, having won 13 titles ever since it's inception in 1992. They also hold the most number of goals scored and most number of wins in the league.

In the 2017/18 season, they ended the season in second place, a whopping 19 points behind the winners Manchester City. It was Jose Mourinho's second season in-charge at the club, after he took over from Louis Van Gaal. In his first season, the Red Devils won the UEFA Europa League as well as the EFL Cup. But the second season saw United fail to win even a single trophy, something very rare to see since the past 25 years.
