  • Cristiano Ronaldo's lawyers has brushed aside allegations of rape against him, by insisting that the incident that occurred between the two was 'completely consensual'.
  • Kathryn Mayorga, however, claims that she was pressured into signing an non-disclosure agreement for her silence and is now demanding almost  $200,000 in penalties and damages.

In the wake of the recent controversy of rape allegations surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo, the lawyers of the Portuguese superstar have released a statement denying the claims, while insisting that the incident that occurred in Las Vegas back in 2009 was 'completely consensual'.

"Ronaldo is forced to break his silence," said Peter Christiansen, the lawyer of the Portuguese skipper, through a statement released by Gestifute, the company that manages the legal and public affairs of the player.

"Once again, for the avoidance of doubt, Cristiano Ronaldo's position has always been, and continues to be, that what happened in 2009 in Las Vegas was completely consensual," the statement explained the significance of the incident that occurred between the two.

The talismanic forward had been put in bad light after reports emerging of rape allegations against him. According to German media outlet Der Speigel, an American woman named Kathryn Mayorga has accused the renowned footballer for raping her in a hotel room in Las Vegas back in 2009, and then paid $375,000 for her silence.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who is now a subject of a re-opened investigation by the Las Vegas police, had made a public statement for the first time since the news broke out.  In a twitter post, the Juventus attacker denied the claims insisting his conscience was clear.

I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me," said the five-time Ballon d'Or winner. "Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in," Cristiano Ronaldo added.

Kathryn Mayorga, however, claims that she was pressured into signing an non-disclosure agreement for her silence and is now demanding almost  $200,000 in penalties and damages.

Although, Cristiano Ronaldo's lawyer Peter Christiansen admitted that there was an agreement in place to keep this incident a secret, but however, claims that documents recently produced by Kathryn Mayorga seemed to be altered.

The rest of the statement reads:

“Cristiano Ronaldo does not deny that he agreed to conclude an agreement."

“This agreement is by no means a confession of guilt. What happened was simply that Cristiano Ronaldo merely followed the advice of his advisers in order to put an end to the insulting accusations made against him in order to avoid attempts, such as those now witnessed, to destroy a reputation built thanks to intense work, great athleticism and ethically impeccable behaviour.”

Christiansen added “documents that allegedly contain statements by Cristiano Ronaldo and were reproduced in the media are pure invention”.
