England faced heartbreak on Wednesday as their closely followed run to the nether end of the 2018 World Cup came to an abrupt halt in the most dramatic circumstances, as with the semifinal seemingly destined for penalties, Mario Mandzukic turned up with a winner for Croatia.

England, as always, had brought with them a lot of colour to the World Cup, and for once, most of it was positive. After a string of poor performances at major tournaments, the country, as well as fans of the England National Team, had got their hopes up with the taglines "It's coming home!" and "Football's coming home!" being used liberally (to put it mildly.)

However, after their 2-1 exit, rather than the final against France, England are heading to a 3rd-4th place playoff versus Belgium -- the second dead rubber meeting between the two in this World Cup.

Because of their significant following (both for and against), social media has been overflowing with reactions, from the celebrities, royals, associations, sportspersons, footballers, and fans. Here are some of the ones you have to see:

The English FA are buoyant and given the average age of the team, quite hopeful that this wasn't a flash in the pan:
