Raheem Sterling's recent brawl with Liverpool's Joe Gomez turned out to be tough for the forward as he was left out of England's squad for their 7-0 win against Montenegro at Wembley. Apparently, Gomez was left with a cut under his right eye after the heated altercation with Sterling. It all started when Sterling and Gomez locked horns against each other during the Premier League Matchday 12 clash between Liverpool and Manchester City. The decision made by Gareth Southgate left Sterling and some players from the English squad upset.

England however went and dominated Montenegro to a 7-0 win. But some of the England supporters were upset about the incident that led to Sterling's suspension. Fans were constantly booing Joe Gomez during the Euro 2020 qualifier game. The hate towards Liverpool's centre-back looked completely invalid and even Raheem Sterling thought the same. Sterling came in support of Gomez and said that it was difficult for him to see his teammate getting booed.

To all the @England fans, I wanted to leave things at it was but tonight I have to speak again : it was hard for me to see my team mate get booed for something that was my fault. Joe hasn’t done anything wrong & for me to see someone who keeps his head down and work hard..

Leicester City full-back Ben Chilwell also shared his views on the situation and said that Gomez and Raheem got the chance to talk to each other at a team meeting. He added that Raheem Sterling wanted to apologise and Joe Gomez also wanted to get stuff off his chest. Chilwell cleared that it's not Sterling's nature to behave the way he did. Chilwell revealed that the entire England team had a meeting which was purely to clear the tension between Sterling and Gomez and for them to put their points across.
