Euro 2020 Qualifiers: Dele Alli out of favour in England's starting XI

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has been dropped out of England squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 Qualifiers by Southgate following dismal performances.

England and Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli has been out of favour off late for the national football side. The player has not featured in Gareth Southgate's team since their 0-0 draw against Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League played on June 9, 2019.

Dele has been in bad form this season

Dele was once a regular player in Southgate’s squad but has lost his place in the team after his poor form plagued with fitness issues this season. However, there have been signs of the old Dele returning in his last few Spurs games as he scored in their recent Premier League 1-1 draw at Everton.

Southgate, when asked about Dele Alli by sections of the British media, said that he had not spoken with the player. He did speak with Eric Dier a week ago to catch up with him and get a view of where he is at. He went on to say that he spoke to Dele occasionally in the two previous months.

The England head coach added that whenever he does not select a player who has been with them for a period, he always talks to them through the rationale of the initial decision and then try to pick it up as they go through. England would be guaranteed a place at Euro 2020 with a win against Montenegro at Wembley in the coming week or in Pristina against Kosovo later.

The squad was released on Thursday, November 7, 2019. Player like Mason Mount and Ross Barkley, who were expected to be out of the list, have been called up. Mount suffered an ankle injury during their recent UEFA Champions League clash against Ajax and had to be subbed off in the 59th minute.
