With matches being played behind closed doors, tens of Benfica fans gathered on Thursday outside the Stadium of Light to support the squad on their league's return after a shutdown of nearly three months due to the cronavirus pandemic.

Fans also gathered at terraces and cafes to watch on television Benfica's goalless draw with lowly Tondela.

The match was played in an empty Stadium of Light, but 'As Aguias' (The Eagles) tried their best to recreate an atmosphere by playing crowd noise through the ground's many speakers - it didn't seem to help as they were held to a goalless draw at home by lowly Tondela.

Despite the disappointing result, Benfica returned to the top of the Primera Liga standings with 60 points from 25 games, ahead of Porto on goal difference.

Porto suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat at Famalicao on Wednesday.
