FIFA WC Qualifiers: Group E team standings and other tournament info

There is still a long time for the FIFA Qatar World Cup 2022 but the journey for many countries has already begun. On Tuesday, India hosted Bangladesh in their qualifying match at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. Both the teams shared the spoils in the clash as Adil Khan scored the late equalizer to end the match at 1-1. It was a disappointing result for the Men in Blue as they would have expected a positive result from the match after clinching a draw against Qatar in their previous clash.

The World Cup 2022 qualifiers began on June 6 earlier this year, starting with Asia’s lowest-ranked teams facing each other in the initial rounds. The qualification process will end in March 2022 and only 5 Asian nations will get to play at the main event in Qatar. From March 2021, 55 European nations will battle each other for the 13 spots that are allocated to them. Europe is considered to be the toughest groups to get qualified from.

There will be three other groups formed through the playoffs and it will be a similar procedure for other groups as well. A quota of five teams has been allocated to Africa while South America has been authorized with four direct spots and one via a play-off. Caribbean nations and Central America have been allocated three immediate spots along with one through winning the play-offs. While Oceania has been given only one playoff berth.
