Fortuna Dusseldorf throw away 3-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Hertha Berlin

Fortuna Dusseldorf threw away a three-goal lead and the chance to climb out of the relegation zone on Friday after Hertha Berlin fought back to earn a 3-3 draw at the Merkur Spiel-Arena.

Fortuna Dusseldorf threw away a three-goal lead and the chance to climb out of the relegation zone on Friday after Hertha Berlin fought back to earn a 3-3 draw at the Merkur Spiel-Arena. A brilliant individual effort from Erik Thommy and a Kenan Karaman brace put Uwe Rosler's Dusseldorf 3-0 up at the break.

But in the second half things started to uravel - home midfielder Erik Thommy put through his own goal in the 64th minute and two minutes later Matheus Cunha made it 3-2.

Berlin's new signing Krzysztof Piatek then equalised from the spot after Florian Kastenmeier had brought him down in the penalty area.

There were stil fiften minutes left and either side might have snatched the points, but honours were shared in the end - Dusseldorf remain in the bottom three and Berlin stay 13th, six points above the drop zone.
