After a month-long carnival in Russia, few might have experienced withdrawal symptoms due to the lack of football. However, the summer transfer window kept the football fans buzzing until the season got underway.

Fans looked forward to the day with the hopes of their clubs landing their reported summer targets. While Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool were busy shopping in the transfer market, things didn't seem to go the Red Devils' way this season.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was adamant about signing two center-backs ahead of the deadline, as he felt his side needed reinforcements in order to challenge for the title this season.

Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire were reported to be the Portuguese manager's top picks. Though, deals for the two failed to materialize after the club officials could not agree on financial terms with the defenders.

After failing to land their top targets, the Premier League giants were reportedly looking to explore the opportunity of securing the services of Jerome Boating from Bayern Munich.  The 30-year-old defender is reported to have been in talks with PSG and Manchester United in the quest of embarking on a 'new challenge'.

With the transfer window now shut, Jerome Boating has revealed why he turned down the offer tabled by Manchester United. He admitted that he was thrilled about the prospect of receiving an offer from the Red Devils, but the thought of leaving Bayern Munich was a hard pill to swallow.

According to German news outlet, Bild,  Jerome Boateng claims to have called Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to explain his decision to stay at Bayern Munich. “I called Jose Mourinho, I told him that his interest was an honor for me and thanked him for trying so hard for me.  I explained to him that it’s difficult to leave, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club," Boateng said.
