LaLiga News: Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and LaLiga Match request

LaLiga news: Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and La Liga have requested to play a match in Miami. They posted a formal proposal to the governing bodies.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has received a request from Spanish giants Villarreal and Atletico Madrid for their match in December to be played in Miami. This request was also supported by LaLiga. The Villarreal president Fernando Roig confirmed the news in an interview. The two clubs hope for an agreement.

LaLiga: Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and La Liga submit a request to the RFEF for their match in December to be played in Miami

The Villarreal club president mentioned that such an event would be beneficial for the growth of Spanish football. The three soccer bodies have now lodged an official proposal in regards to this request. The Villarreal website posted an article solidifying and making their request to play in Miami public. In the post, it was clearly mentioned that this request is a part of the growth strategy in order to expand the boundaries and the overall image of Spanish football. They pointed out in the request that there are many LaLiga fans all around the world and the ruling body alongside the two clubs wish to give them an optimum experience. The two clubs and LaLiga wish to connect with their fans on a global level and thereby ensure a worldwide growth.

The two teams have shown availability and therefore they are the key factors for this official request. Villarreal officials have been in Miami for a while to further these discussions. In the past, Villarreal have held several training camps and done various workshops. Atletico Madrid have completed a successful tour of America where they took part in an MLS all-star match, which was held in Orlando.

Back in 2018, LaLiga was involved in a 15-year deal with Relevent, the company behind the International Champions Cup. They proposed a match between Barcelona and Girona. This match was to be played in Miami as well at the start of 2019. However, RFEF and AFE were not supportive of the idea and condemned the plan. Later on, Barca pulled out of the deal in December. Barcelona pulled out of the deal after FIFA president Gianni Infantino said that he would block any such match.

However, despite previous oppositions, the three bodies wish to take another chance at expansion and growth of Spanish football. Gil has said that Atletico Madrid works hard and have shown tremendous enthusiasm over the years to promote the brand in all continents. Receiving a match would allow them to further expand and reach out to all La Liga fans worldwide. They also pointed out that this proposal would help them grow and bring Spanish football a bit closer to its supporters.
