LaLiga results: Real Madrid stay on top, Barcelona climb to second

LaLiga matchday 8 kicked-off with Real Betis hosting Eibar on October 5, 2019. This LaLiga week saw a lot of ups and downs in the points table. Real Madrid (18) maintained their top spot with a thumping win over Granada and kept their unbeaten run in LaLiga 2019-20 intact. Atletico Madrid (15) dropped points with their second consecutive draw in the league. Whereas Barcelona (16) moved to the second position with a dominating win over Sevilla. Mallorca (7), Espanyol (5) and Leganes (2) are at the bottom of the table.

LaLiga weekend results and roundup

1. Real Betis 1-1 Eibar

Fabian Orellana and Lorenzo Garcia both scored for their respective teams, as both the sides settled for a draw. Eibar were reduced to 10-men after Gonzalo Escalante was sent off in injury time. 

2. Leganes 1-2 Levante 

Levante's Roger Marti made no mistake from the spot to give his side the lead. Jose Campana doubled Levante's lead with a goal in the 49th minute. Leganes' Braithwaite pulled one back for the home side but the visitors returned with the victory in the end.

3. Real Madrid 4-2 Granada

Real Madrid hosted Granada for their matchday eight clash in LaLiga. Karim Benzema opened the account for Los Blancos and Eden Hazard scored his first goal for Real Madrid. Luka Modric and James both appeared on the scoresheet. Granada scored two quick goals to scare Real Madrid for a while, but the hosts maintained their unbeaten run in the league.

4. Valencia 2-1 Alaves

Gomez and Parejo's goals helped Valencia get an advantage of two goals before Lucas Perez slotted a late-goal for Alaves. 

5. Osasuna 2-1 Villareal

Villareal took an early lead at the 5th minute off Pau Torres' goal at the El Sadar Stadium. However, Facundo Roncaglia (46) and Ezequiel Avila (79) minute goals completed Osasuna's perfect comeback to clinch the match. 

6. Mallorca 2-0 Espanyol

Ante Budimir and Salva Sevilla goals in the 37th and 73rd minute helped Mallorca pick an easy home win against Espanyol. 

7. Celta Vigo 1-0 Ath. Bilbao

Celta Vigo's Lago Aspas scored the only goal of the match in the 74th minute and helped his side down Athletic Bilbao on matchday eight.

8. Valladolid 0-0 Atletico Madrid

Valladolid and Atletico Madrid settled for a goalless draw at the Estadio José Zorrilla. Both the teams only had one shot on target each.

9. Real Sociedad 1-2 Getafe

Getafe made a stunning comeback after Real Sociedad took an early lead off Mikel Merino's goal. Jaime Mata (69') and Nemanja Maksimovic (89') scored in the second half to turn the match in Getafe's favour. Sociedad's Diego Llorente was booked with a red card in the 53rd minute. 

10. Barcelona 4-0 Sevilla

Barcelona found the net four times in their clash against Sevilla at Camp Nou. Suarez (27'), Vidal (32'), Dembele (35') and Messi (78') all appeared on the scoresheet. Although the hosts were reduced to nine men after Araujo (87') and Dembele saw a red card towards the end of the second half.
