For the first time after the season restarted on July 4, about 5,000 football fans enjoyed watching  the J. League first division's match at Kawasaki Todoroki Stadium in Kawasaki, outskirt of Tokyo, on Saturday.

Wearing masks and team's uniform, Kawasaki Frontale's supporters gathered at the stadium, but they had to seal up their highly organized cheering style by following the league's guidelines to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

Fans were required to disinfect their hands and have their temperatures taken when they entered the stadium.

Japan's professional baseball league and the second division of J.League started allowing fans back into stadium from Friday.

Japan has been largely successful controlling COVID-19 with about 1,000 deaths attributed to the coronavirus pandemic. The United States, with a population about 2 1/2 times larger, has recorded more than 130,000 deaths.

However, new cases have increased recently in Tokyo. New cases on Saturday in Tokyo topped 200 for three days in a row.
