Liverpool are still undefeated in the Premier League and are increasingly becoming the favourites to lift their first-ever Premier League trophy. The game, however, was marred by controversies related to contentious refereeing decisions and after the match City manager, Pep Guardiola went to the referee Michael Oliver and his assistants to shake their hand say "Thank You" in a sarcastic fashion.

"I want to talk about the performance"

Guardiola, however, refused to be drawn into the debate of referring decisions in the post-match press conference. He also spoke about the team's performance and the result. He said, "Always be positive and never give up, that's why we won back to back titles. We want to fight until the end. We dropped points for our faults. For other things, we cannot control. There are still seven months to go. If Liverpool wins the title, I will be the first to congratulate them for how good they are. We showed many times why we are the champions. There are three teams in front with more chances to be champions. We are going to try and in football, you can't always win. I’m so proud to see my team play in this stadium against that team that way. What happened today we showed why we were the champions."

Talking about refereeing decisions, he said, "I want to talk about our performance - it was so good. For the performance we had, it was awesome. One of the best. We lost because they scored three goals and we scored one. In football, you can't always win. I’m so proud to see my team play in this stadium against that team that way.”

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp, on the other hand, said, "We scored two incredible goals, had to suffer in moments because of the way City play, but I would say until the 75th minute or around about, when they scored the goal, we could control it in some way. But after that, you saw immediately our legs got a bit tired and then I don’t know how many balls were rolling through our six-yard box in the far-post area – it doesn’t feel too good. You always think there must be a blue player but, thank God, there was nobody. But that’s exactly what City are doing usually."
