Former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been announced as the new Aston Villa manager after the Premier League outfit parted ways with their previous head coach Dean Smith. Gerrard made the move after he was the manager for the Scottish team Rangers FC. The last time the former England midfielder was in the Premier League was back in his playing days when he donned the Liverpool jersey. Upon hearing the news of Gerrard taking over as Villa manager the Reds' fans had mixed emotions but all of them were happy for him and wished the best for his new challenge.

Gerrard's first words as Aston Villa manager

Steven Gerrard's first words for his new club would definitely excite the Villa fans. He said that when he spoke to the chairman of the club Nassef Sawiris and the rest of the Villa board members he was highly impressed by their level of ambition and their plans on how they look to go about it, so he is excited to work with the team and help them towards achieving those aims.

“Aston Villa is a club with a rich history and tradition in English football and I am immensely proud to become its new Head Coach. In my conversations with Nassef, Wes and the rest of the Board, it was apparent how ambitious their plans are for the club and I am looking forward to helping them achieve their aims.

How will Steven Gerrard fare in the Premier League?

At Rangers, he did well and guided them to the Scottish Premiership title last season after finishing the season undefeated in the league. It was truly a sensational feat from the former Liverpool boss but the question hanging over everyone's mind is whether he will manage to replicate his success from Scottish Premiership in the Premier League. It is fair to say that the Scottish Premiership is an easier league to win and while no one expects Gerrard to win the league with Villa they still expect a top-half finish in the League. Villa also have a solid squad with some top players all over the field but again, the Premier League is one of the most difficult leagues in the world and Gerrard will have his work cut out.
