ON THIS DAY: AC Milan and Italy legend Paolo Maldini turns 52 on Friday

Italy and AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini celebrates his 52nd birthday on Friday.

The defender spent all 25 seasons of his career playing for Milan, where he won 25 trophies during his reign.

Maldini won the UEFA Champions League five times, seven Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, five Supercoppa Italiana titles, five European Super Cups, two Intercontinental Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup.

He hung up his boots at the age of 41 at the end of the 2008-2009 season and Milan decided to retire his number three shirt.

However, Maldini has since allowed his sons to inherit the famous number three shirt, should either of them play for the club in the future.
