Portland Thorns beat Gotham FC 2-1 on Wednesday (25 August) to extend their unbeaten streak to 10 games.

Thorns forward Sophia Smith opened the scoring for the NWSL leaders after pouncing on a back pass to Gotham's Erica Skroski in the 29th minute.

Smith then earned a penalty for the Thorns 11 minutes later when Gotham's Estelle Johnson took her down in the box.

Christine Sinclair converted the spot-kick to double the lead for the hosts, before Carli Floyd pulled one back for Gotham in the 78th minute to make it 2-1.

Portland are currently top of the NWSL standings with 32 points, five adrift of second-placed North Carolina Courage.
