Raheem Sterling can match up to Messi and Ronaldo, says Guardiola

The Manchester City manager further added that Raheem has a long way to go. It is a dream for him to reach that level and we will be right there to help him.

Premier League giants, Manchester City's manager, Pep Guardiola said that English attacking midfielder Raheem Sterling could match up to the level of legendary players- Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and this rare appreciation and comparison comes after Guardiola was impressed with Sterling's progress in the past three years but having worked with Messi at Barcelona, Pep is well aware that hard work, sheer dedication is needed for the English national to reach that level.

An achievable dream

The Manchester City manager further added that Raheem has a long way to go. It is a dream for him to reach that level and we will be right there to help him achieve whatever he deserves in his professional career but at this moment no one can compare themselves to the level of these two legendary players. Guardiola said that Raheem is a much more clinical player now and can win games as he has the desire to score a lot of goals in every match that he is involved in.

Raheem's stellar performance has earned him praises from England Manager, Gary Southgate, who said that Sterling could be with time talked about Ronaldo and Messi if he maintains his spectacular form. 

Ex Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher said that he saw Sterling as one of the future winners of the Ballon d'Or, an award that has been won by both Ronaldo and Messi five times each.

A winning mentality

Raheem Sterling had a successful 2018-2019 season wherein he scored 25 goals to help City win the treble which included the Premier League, FA Cup, and the League Cup and this season has shown how good he is at football as he has netted 8 goals for both club and country in as many as 7 games. He also scored in both the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying matches for the English team.
