The Stadio Olimpico sees an early kickoff on Saturday, November 2, when AS Roma welcome Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli. Paulo Fonseca's Roma are currently fourth in the Serie A table, whereas Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli sit two places below AS Roma in sixth. As the two Italian heavyweights gear up to face each other, both sides will be wary of misfortune, having been involved in their fair share of controversy in their last few outings.

Serie A: AS Roma vs Napoli preview

Napoli's last outing in the Serie A involved a 2-2 draw against Atalanta. Carlo Ancelotti's side had to hold off a surge from Atalanta on two occasions as they look to avoid registering their third defeat in Serie A this season. In the dying minutes of the game, Atalanta defender Simon Kjaer appeared to run into Napoli's Fernando Llorente. The referee, however, did not award the hosts a penalty, and Atalanta launched a quick counterattack to net an equaliser. After a five-minute intervention, the referee decided that Atalanta's equaliser would stand, leaving Ancelotti fuming. His vehement appeals led to the Napoli manager being sent to the stands, who then had a few choice words to say about the incident after the game.

AS Roma, on the other hand, had their own share of controversy. As Roma appeared to have sealed a win in their Europa League encounter against Borussia Monchengladbach, the referee decided to award a penalty for the German league leaders in the dying minutes of the game. The ball appeared to strike on-loan defender Chris Smalling's face, but the referee was having none of it as he awarded a penalty for the German side. Lars Stindl stepped up to net the equaliser, leaving Chris Smalling in utter disbelief.

Both AS Roma and Napoli will be hoping to avoid a case of deja vu in the Seria A. Interestingly, in the last six meetings between Roma and Napoli, the visiting team has won all six of their meetings. Roma, however, appear to be in fine form so far, and will be looking to register three points and climb up to third place in Seria A.

Roma will be without the services of Federico Fazio, who was suspended in their 4-0 victory over Udinese. Bryan Cristante, Nikola Kalinic, Amadou Diawara, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are also ruled out due to injuries. Napol, on the other hand, have an almost full-strength squad at their disposal, with Elseid Hysaj, Allan and Kostas Manolas being the only missing names for the fixture.
