The Indian football team managed to do the impossible, they prevented Qatar from securing all three points and are the first team to do so this year. In an interview with Republic TV, Sunil Chhetri’s father, KB Chhetri said that Team India have played exceedingly well and far beyond our expectations. KB added that it was unfortunate that his son (Sunil Chhetri) couldn’t play as he had a severe fever but he was travelling with the team to Doha, Qatar.
“Nonetheless what the boys performed on the ground is something to be cherished for a long long time,” KB Chhetri said. He went on to talk about how over the last 2 to 3 years the Indian boys have not been playing that well, “But the current young players, the side chosen by the present gaffer (Igor Stimac), they are very young and very enthusiastic and we have great hope with these boys in the future (sic) .”Sunil Chhetri’s father hopes that India manages to come out victorious from Group E and qualify for the Fifa World Cup to be held in Qatar in 2022."
KB Chhetri reiterated that “we” are really proud and as far as his son was concerned, his son Sunil had flown down with the Indian team to Qatar and it was there that his severe fever was discovered, “Sunil Chhetri wanted to play, his coach wanted him to play too and everybody back home back in India wanted to play Sunil, but unfortunately the last moment he was not in the team. We had great hope with these young boys under the captaincy of Gurpreet Singh, the wall of our Indian football team and what he performed during the match was something that we cannot forget for a long long time, it was really very good (sic).”
The Indian football captain was extremely proud after India fought and held Qatar to a draw.
Dear India, THAT is my team and THOSE are my boys! Cannot describe how proud I am at this moment. Not a big result for the table, but in terms of a fight, as big as it can get. Huge credit to the coaching staff and the dressing room. #QATIND— Sunil Chhetri (@chetrisunil11) September 10, 2019
