Hakim Ziyech fired an early goal as Ajax registered a comfortable 3-0 victory against Valencia on matchday 2 of UEFA Champions League on Thursday, October 3, 2019. Quincy Promes doubled the lead for the Dutch club in the first half itself, while midfielder Donny van de Beek scored the third goal for Ajax at Estadio Mestalla. Promes scored his second consecutive goal in Champions League this season. With this victory, Erik ten Hag’s men reached the top of Group H table with six points.

The 26-year-old Ziyech netted the opening goal of the match in the eighth minute with a long-range shot, assisted brilliantly by Ajax skipper Dusan Tadic. Ziyech was handed his sixth appearance in the Champions League. He made a great impact upfront and netted his sixth goal for Ajax. Valencia skipper Daniel Parejo had a chance to equalise but he fluffed the finish. Promes then doubled the lead for the visitors in the 34th minute. The Moroccon international missed out on scoring a brace in the first 45 minutes as his well-taken freekick was palmed away by Valencia goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

In the 62nd minute, Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana was shown a yellow card for time-wasting. Following the incident, Van de Beek scored the Dutch side's third in the 67th minute to seal a comprehensive victory for Ajax. The Dutch side will be hoping to keep the winning momentum as they prepare to square off against Premier League giants Chelsea on Wednesday, October 23, 2019.
