Manchester United failed to register a shot on target as they were held to a disappointing 0-0 away draw against AZ Alkmaar on the second matchday of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, October 3, 2019. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men continue their winless run in away games, stretching to 10 matches now. Manchester United defence seemed porous from the start, giving confidence to the hosts. Oussama Idrissa and Owen Wijndal tested the goalkeeping skills of David de Gea, firing shots throughout the match. United took half an hour for an attack as Diogo Dalot delivered a brilliant cross for Mason Greenwood but his instinctive first touch shot was blocked by Alkmaar defender Ron Vlaar. In the 80th minute, substitute Marcus Rashford was brought down by a rough tackle from Stijn Wuytens. After the match, United boss talking to the press claimed that it was a penalty.
