UEFA have announced the nominees for the 2017/18 Goal of the Season, and Cristiano Ronaldo's stunning bicycle kick for Real Madrid against Juventus is one of the leading contenders for the prestigious prize.
The European football governing body on Tuesday revealed the 11 nominees for the goal of the season. Ronaldo’s stunning goal will contend with goals from Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen for Denmark and Dimitri Payet's stunning effort for Lyon are among other goals which have been selected across several UEFA tournaments.
Since only one goal from each UEFA competition is nominated, Ronaldo's former team-mate's Gareth Bale, who scored a similarly acrobatic effort in Madrid's Champions League final triumph against Liverpool, failed to make the cut.
Dimitri Payet's goal presents the Europa League nomination. The France international produced a brilliant dribble before unleashing a shot into the top corner with the outside of his boot in Marseilles' quarter-final win against RB Leipzig, makes its way into the montage of best goals of the season.
Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo's compatriots Goncalo Ramos, Paulo Estrela and Ricardinho are also on the shortlist for the season's prize. Eva Navarro, Olga Carmona, Elliot Embleton, and Lucy Bronze complete the list forming the women nominations for the prize.
Fans can watch all the goals and vote for their favourite goal on the UEFA website with the deadline being Monday 27 August, and the winning strike will be revealed later during day. Last year Juventus' Mario Mandzukic won the award, while Barcelona's Lionel Messi claimed the honor in the previous two editions.
