India captain Virat Kohli had a forgettable outing in the third and final T20 international against South Africa on Sunday. Kohli was playing at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, a venue he is well-accustomed to from his time as captain of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, it was not Kohli’s day as he was dismissed for just nine runs off a Kagiso Rabada delivery in the ninth over. Here are more details on Virat Kohli’s display in the third T20I.
The Indian skipper failed to lead the home team to a win in the final T20I against South Africa. After Rohit Sharma’s early dismissal, Kohli stepped onto the pitch to accompany opener Shikhar Dhawan in the middle. However, the Delhi-born batsman did not stick around for much longer as he fell prey to a Rabada delivery in the ninth over. But it was South Africa's Andile Phehlukwayo who completed the dismissal with a beautiful catch on the ropes.
On the third delivery, Phehlukwayo pulled off a stunning catch on the boundary line to silence the crowd in Bangalore. Kohli whipped up the ball in the air after a sluggish start to his innings. The ball was sailing in the air for quite some time as Phehlekwayo kept his eyes while stationed at the boundary line. The South African all-rounder kept his calm and took the catch after stretching to his left and maintaining his balance.
The Proteas levelled the three-match series 1-1 as opposition captain Quinton de Kock was adjudged as man of the series for 79* from 52 deliveries. Beuran Hendriks was named man of the match for his impressive display in the first innings. India will now gear up to take on the South Africans for the upcoming Test series to be played on home soil. Let's see if the men in blue are successful in their mission to win the ICC Test Championship.
