Angel Di Maria netted a spectacular stoppage equalizer to rescue a point for Paris St Germain in their Champions League Group C clash with Napoli played at the Parc de Princess.
The Argentine proved to be the savior for the French giants as they came back twice from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw against Napoli. In the process, Di Maria's strike meant that PSG maintained their 100% unbeaten record across all competitions.
It was a game that the deadly trio of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Edison Cavani failed to make the most of their chances on home soil. The visiting went ahead through a Lorenzo Insigne goal in the 29th minute, before PSG drew level after Mario Rui deflected the ball into his own net in the 61st minute.
Napoli went ahead again in the 77th minute after Dries Mertens latched onto a rebounded shot off Marquinhos' back. Just when it seemed it was all over for PSG, Angel Di Maria stepped up and delivered the spectacular.
The Argentine collected the ball on the edge of the box and curled the ball into the top right corner past a diving David Opsina, in the third minute of stoppage time. The goal proved to a lifeline for the French outfit, but cruel for Ospina who had kept the persistent attacks at bay with a series of saves.
The draw left their quest for Champions League glory hanging in the balance with Liverpool sitting on top of the group with six points, while Napoli and PSG occupy second and third spot in the standings with five and four points respectively.
Though PSG might have the attacking firepower to boast of, but their defensive cohesiveness remains a major concern if they have to challenge for the Champions League title. Their defensive liabilities were quite visible in the 3-2 loss against Liverpool, and they were exposed yet again against a lethal counter-attacking side in the form of Napoli.
However, PSG have a second chance to correct their mistakes when they travel to Napoli on November 6. Before that, they face Marseille in Ligue 1 action on Sunday, October 28th.
