Many of the players who featured in the World Cup 2018 have decided to skip the pre-season friendlies of their respective clubs. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe decided to spend time with their loved one's and family, instead of joining up with the team.
Given it is the pre-season, it isn't a matter for most of the clubs. But in the case of Manchester United, the late return of players from their holidays was a major concern for their manager Jose Mourinho. The Portugese regularly hinted that his team's poor pre-season was due to the fact that his star players hadn't returned.
One of them was Paul Pogba, who won the World Cup 2018 title with France. Since the triumph, he can be seen enjoying life outside the football pitch. The star midfielder has been active on social media, and has posting photos and videos from his holiday. In one such post, Pogba can be seen dancing on a beach for fun.
While one side, he is enjoying, on the other side, his club Manchester United are going through a tough phase. Mourinho has completed two years in-charge at the club. But even the two-time UEFA Champions League winning manager has failed to take the club to their previous heights. Last season, United failed to win a single trophy, which has put the pressure on Mourinho to deliver this season.
The Portugese though, seems interested in moaning and hitting out at players rather than improving the squad. The Red Devils had a shocking pre-season tour, where they won just once in normal time.
Mourinho was seen complaining on a regular basis, both about his squad and a certain few players. One of his target was Anthony Martial. The Frenchman left the tour midway in order to attend the birth of his baby. He is yet to return for training.
And this irked Mourinho, who criticized him for failing to turn up. He told MUTV that Martial should have been present with the squad in US after the successful delivery of the baby.
