The homophobic chant of Mexican fans towards the rival goalkeeper during pre-Olympic matches for the Tokyo 2020 Games cost Mexico a two-match penalty without spectators, FIFA announced on Friday.

In addition to the two meetings, Mexico will have to pay a fine of 60,000 Swiss francs, around 65,000 U.S. dollars.

De Luisa also added that if the chant persisted, Mexico's right to co-host the 2026 World Cup could be in jeopardy.

The next two home matches for Mexico's senior team will be for the World Cup qualifying round to Qatar, when they host Jamaica on September 2nd and Canada on October 7th.
