'Worrying project' - French Sports Minister reacts to creation of Super League

France's government quickly positioned itself against the prospect, with the minister for sports Roxana Maracineanu criticizing the proposed breakaway as worrying.

"This is worrying. It is very worrying at a time when we need more than ever solidarity between countries and between clubs, between amateur and professional sport. I think that this is not the time for a small number of clubs to stand out from the pack and make a life for themselves" Maracineanu said whilst touring an amateur sports stadium in Miramas.

Maracineanu added that knowing that it is not only the clubs that invest or the federations but also governments must and can also have their say in this.
