Alex Overchkin scored twice and added an assist as the Washington Capitals tuned up for the restart of the National Hockey League season with a 3-2 exhibition win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday in Toronto, Canada.

The game was the Capitals' lone exhibition before they start their three-game round-robin tournament Monday.The NHL round robin will set the seeding among the other three top teams in the Eastern Conference: Tampa Bay, Philadelphia and Boston. Carolina's next game will be Saturday, when the Hurricanes open their five-game play-in series against the New York Rangers.
