Babar Azam on Thursday overtook Virat Kohli as the fastest player (62 matches) to score 2500 T20I runs after he scored 39 runs against Australia in the T20 World Cup semi-final. Following Babar's achievement, an exuberant Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took to their official social media handle to post a Tweet wherein the Pakistani skipper supposedly got to the milestone in quicker time than 'Cheteshwar Pujara, Sourav Ganguly, Sunil Gavaskar and Vijay Hazare'.

Although the tweet has now been deleted and replaced with the official scores, netizens certainly had a field day as they trolled the PCB for their obsession with India. It was hilarious for Indian fans to see Gavaskar and Hazare's names included in the list as T20I men's cricket only began in 2005, and the pair retired way before that. While Gavaskar retired in 1987, Hazare retired all the way back in 1953 and played only Test cricket at the time.

Netizens troll Pakistan Cricket Board over Sunil Gavaskar claim

As per the official figures and Pakistan Cricket Board's latest tweet, Babar Azam overtook Virat Kohli to reach 2500 T20I runs, the fastest. Kohli did so in 68 innings. The pair is followed by Australia's Aaron Finch (78), New Zealand's Martin Guptill (83) and Ireland's Paul Stirling (89).

Several netizens took to Twitter to ask when did the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Vijay Hazare play T20Is.

Several fans took to their official Twitter accounts to post an image of PCB's original tweet that they deleted, and had a laugh.

Another fan asked PCB if they were interested in cancelling their funding. Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja famously had gone on record to state that PM Modi and BCCI can stop ICC's funding to PCB whenever they want to.

"The ICC is a politicised body divided between the Asian and Western blocs and 90 per cent of its revenues are generated from India. It is frightening," adding that 50% of PCB's budget comes from ICC funding.

"In a way, India's business houses are running Pakistan cricket, and if tomorrow the Indian PM decides he will not allow any funding to Pakistan, this cricket board can collapse."

Another social media user wrote that Pakistan were so exhilarated to reach the T20 World Cup semi-final that they did not bother to review what stats they were posting. Babar Azam's Pakistan side have certainly been on a high ever since they defeated India in their opening match as they had previously lost 11 of the 12 encounters (no result in one match) to the Men in Blue in both ODI and T20 World Cups.

Meanwhile, a couple of other reactions can be seen below.
