As Hima Das Continues Her Gold Rush, Netizens Hail Her As ‘the Icon Of New India'

It has been a gold rush for Indian athlete Hima Das as she clinched her fifth gold medal in 18 days by winning the women's 400m race in the Nove Mesto nad Metuji Grand Prix hosted by the Czech Republic on 20 July. The 19-year-old recorded her season-best timing of 52.09 seconds, announcing her return to the 400m race category.

It has been a gold rush for Indian athlete Hima Das as she clinched her fifth gold medal in 18 days by winning the women's 400m race in the Nove Mesto nad Metuji Grand Prix hosted by the Czech Republic on 20 July. The 19-year-old recorded her season-best timing of 52.09 seconds, announcing her return to the 400m race category.

As Das continues to make the nation proud with back-to-back laurels, let us look back at her remarkable achievement and where it started from. 

It all started for the young athlete at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland on July 2 which was also her first competitive 200m race of the year as she clocked 23.65 seconds to clinch her first gold. Das then won her second gold at the same venue at the Kutno Athletics Meet in the 200m category on July 7 at 23.97 seconds. She then registered her third 200m gold at the Kladno Athletics Meet,  Czech Republic as she clocked 23.43 seconds. She went on to clinch her fourth gold by winning the 200m race Tabor Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic.
