Britain's Oliver Rowland withstood some severe late pressure from Belgium's Stoffel Vandoorne to win round five of the UNICEF-suporting ABB Formula E 'Race at Home Challenge' on Saturday.

Vandoorne started from pole position at a virtual Tempelhof circuit in Berlin, but soon lost first place to Daniel Abt of Germany.

The pair fought it out at the front, but neither saw Rowland coming and he swept into the lead at the halfway stage.

The Nissan e.Dams driver was forced to defend after that, but held off Vandoorne in a tense finale to take the checquered flag for the first time in the series.

Vandoorne had to settle for second place, ahead of Abt, with championship leader Pascal Wehrlein fourth.

Wehrlein's German compatriot Maximilian Guenther's title hopes suffered a blow when he spun out on the third lap and came home seventh.

Wehrlein remains top of the points standings with 82, but his lead was cut to just four points over Vandoorne.

Guenther slips to third on 71 points, with Dutchman Robin Frijns on 48 and Rowland on 43.
