DeAnna Price first U.S. woman to win gold medal in hammer throw

American athlete DeAnna Price on September 28 became the first US woman to win the women's hammer competition in World Athletics Championship.

American track and field athlete DeAnna Price on September 28 became the first woman in the nation to win the women's hammer competition in World Athletics Championship. "It feels absolutely amazing. This was the best timing to improve the personal record," a foreign media website quoted Price as saying. The 26-year old threw 77.54 meters on her third attempt to win the gold medal. Her best throw till now has been of 78.24m, a record that she set at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships.

DeAnna is creating history everywhere

Price gets her coaching from her husband James Lambert. Her record throw makes her the fourth-ranking woman in the history of Hammer throw. She managed to reach the Olympics of 2016 and the World Championships finals in the year 2017. She has won a number of championships at the national level. In the International level, her two best performances have been NACAC Championships in Toronto, Canada, and the recent World Championship at Doha where she finished at the first position.

The runner ups of the recent competition

DeAnna became the first woman in the US to win a hammer world championship. In the competition where she finished first, Poland's Joanna Fiodorow came second and won silver with a throw of 76.35m. "I managed to improve, got silver, my first world medal - I cannot ask for more. I was trying to beat DeAnna until the very end but I knew she had better personal best and that she was very strong," Fiodorow said.

The Chinese player Wang Zheng won the bronze medal at the championship with a throw of 74.76m. Zalina Petrivskaya from Moldova finished at fourth with a throw of 74.33m. Ukraine's Iryna Klymets threw the best of her life at 73.56m and finished fifth.
The 17th World Athletics Championship has been organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations. It started on September 27 and till go on till October 6 in Doha, Qatar at the Khalifa International Stadium that was recently renovated. Over 2000 athletes from 209 countries have participated in the tournament. There will be 49 athletic events for both men and women.
