It was almost a foregone conclusion that wrestler Divya Kakkran will be intentionally ignored by Delhi government in its new scheme that comes with additional funds for the CWG & Asian Games medalists after her outburst before Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal two weeks back.

"I was expecting this to happen. How could I have been awarded by the same authorities before whom I raised my voice..  even if it was for justice and very valid suggestions. But I am happy for those who have been included in the list," Divya Kakkaran told Republic TV over the phone from Lucknow where she is practicing in National camp.

"This is unfortunate but I have accepted it. The authorities told me that you had participated for UP in the past. But I belong to Delhi and why did I have to go? I represented Delhi for years and had to move to UP due to lack of recognition & facilities," Divya pointed out.

During an interaction with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at the Delhi Secretariat on September 4, the wrestler said the city government offered her help only after she won the medal, but no assistance came her way "at the time of need. Nobody helps us when we need it and had I got assistance, I could have even won a gold medal."

"I won the medal in Commonwealth Games and you called me and assured me help...when I asked help to prepare for the Asian Games, it (the help) did not come. I gave in writing, but no one even answered my call. Although I am poor, I have the fire to do something in wrestling. If you will support, it will be very good" Kakran had said this to Arvind Kejriwal.

And she has to pay a heavy price for this.

Divya, a freestyle wrestler in 68 kg category, has won back to back bronze medals in CWG & Asian Games this year along with more than 60 medals overall including 17 gold medals in the Delhi State Championship & eight Bharat Kesri title.
